Why Alfred Hitchcock Presents might be annoying:

    It was rampant self-promotion for Alfred Hitchcock.
    Though it was his show, Hitchcock personally directed only 17 episodes.
    One episode was banned by the FCC for implying a woman was being sawed in half by a magician.
    Though stories would often end with the bad guy getting away with a crime, the sponsors forced Hitchcock to tell the audience that justice was served at the end of every episode.
    NBC attempted to resurrect Hitchcock's corpse by colorizing him and placing him in new episodes in the 1980's.

Why Alfred Hitchcock Presents might not be annoying:

    It proved that in addition to being a great director, Hitchcock was pretty damn funny.
    It remains very popular in syndication.
    Almost all the episodes had surprise endings.
    Robert Altman boosted his career by directing episodes for the series.
    Hitchcock would do separate host segments for French and German speaking audiences.
    Hitchcock used the crew from this series to make one of his most famous films, 'Psycho' (1960).
    It made Alfred Hitchcock a pop culture icon.
