The Resume

Why Wonkette might be annoying:

Its logo is bondage Catwoman (looks to be the Halle Berry version).
The name is a Smurfette play on the word 'wonk' (like 'policy wonk').
Its frequent target is the Birther movement even as they pushed Trig Truther conspiracy theories (which claim that Sarah Palin is not the real mother of her special needs baby).
A post mocking Trig Palin on his third birthday resulted in corporate sponsors like Verizon and Toyota pulling their ads. The post's author was put on leave and later apologized (April 2011).
Its zany and snark-filled commentary means it tends to get grouped with satirical news sites like The Onion, rather than blog sites like The Daily Kos or Daily Beast.

Why Wonkette might not be annoying:

The Bloggies at SXSW selected it as Best Political Blog for 2005, 2006 and 2007.
It was chosen as a top political blog by Vanity Fair and Real Simple in 2008.
Its stories were frequently picked up by Colbert Report, 'Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me,' and CNN.
It gained national media attention after breaking the story of a Hill staffer who blogged about her affair with a member of Senator Mike DeWine's staff.
Its writers have included Reason Magazine editor Nick Gillespie and Sara Benincasa.
Their being sold off by Gawker was a blessing in disguise (less than a decade later the main site would be defunct).
It managed to make the transition from a Bush-era liberal blog to a Resistance-style blog of the Trump-era.
It became ad-free in 2017, and is now wholly supported by reader donations.
