    His WWE Heavyweight title win over Bob Backlund wasn't considered official and wasn't publicized for a long time.
    He hated American wrestling and called it 'phony.'
    It took him a long time to defeat his trainer, Karl Gotch.
    He didn't know when to retire.

    He is the first and only Asian person to win the WWE Heavyweight title.
    He is the first person to defeat Andre the Giant with a submission hold.
    He was given his name by Rikidozan after the legendary Antonio Rocca.
    He was voted 'Tokyo Sports Wrestler of the Year' six times.
    He was recognized as the greatest foreign wrestler of all time by WCW (1994).
    He was inducted into the WCW Hall of Fame (1995).
    He retired from wrestling after a 38-year career in front of over 70,000 fans.
    Some of the guests at the retirement match and after party included Eric Bischoff, Bob Backlund and Muhammad Ali.
    He had many memorable feuds with many top super stars during his career.
    Some of Japan's current top athletes idolized him as kids and he is still an inspiration for many younger generations.
