Why he might be annoying:

He never played in an NFL game.
Despite being considered a top candidate for a coaching position for several years, he didn't land his first coaching job until 2009.
He is a supporter of the sabermetric style of team management.
He was a coaching nomad in the college ranks.
His hiring in Detroit was originally met with skepticism as the fans preferred the team to hire an established head coach over an inexperienced one.

Why he might not be annoying:

He worked on the coaching staffs of Bill Belichick, Ted Marchibroda and Jeff Fisher.
He succeeded Gregg Williams as the Titans defensive coordinator.
He was instrumental in the development of Pacman Jones and Albert Haynesworth during their formative years.
He was the Lions first outside hire in the post-Matt Millen era.
Unlike his predecessor Rod Marinelli, he prefers to employ an aggressive style of play.
At least he doesn't have to worry about Matt Millen ruling him with an iron fist.
