He earned a 3.7 GPA in high school and was the student government president.
He comes from a background of Mexicans who struggled to emigrate to the United States of America.
His father instilled discipline and leadership in him and his brothers.
He had big shoes to fill in at USC following former star quarterbacks Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart.
His spectacular performance at the 2009 Rose Bowl earned him Rose Bowl Offensive MVP honors.
His 24-7 victory over the Houston Texans made him the first Jets starting quarterback to win the very first game of his first year as starting quarterback since Chad Pennington (September 13, 2009).
He is very proud of his Mexican heritage, and has voiced his opinion in support of immigration reform.
