Acted in 'The Jetsons (1962),' 'It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World (1963),' 'Bang the Drum Slowly (1973),' 'Too Close for Comfort (1980-1982),' 'My Favorite Year (1982),' 'Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983)' and 'All of Me (1984)'

Why she might be annoying:

She had a hoarse, honking, nasal voice.
She was typecast as cranky old bags.
She was a chain-smoker.
She loved smoking so much that it was often written into scripts for her.
She eventually died of lung cancer (surprise, surprise).
She inspired other irritating-voiced comediennes like Fran Drescher.

Why she might not be annoying:

In her youth, she was a successful comedy writer, working on 'Your Show of Shows' with Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks and Woody Allen.
Her voice was instantly recognizable.
She had good comic timing and a dry, sarcastic delivery.
Her sitcom career was just taking off when she died.
She was only on 'Night Court' for one year, but many people think it was longer because of the impression she made.
When her replacement on the show, Florence Halop, also died of lung cancer after one season, some suggested they were victims of a curse.
