Born in Greenville, North Carolina
Bass player and co-founder of the disco/dance group Chic
Recorded (with Chic) the albums 'Chic (1977),' 'C'est Chic (1978),' 'Risqué (1979),' 'Real People (1980),' 'Take It Off (1981)' and 'Tongue in Chic (1982)'
Recorded the solo album 'Glad To Be Here (1983)'
Died of pneumonia after a concert in Japan at age 43
'Live at the Budokan' released three years after his death

Why he might be annoying:

He and Chic co-founder/guitarist Nile Rodgers broke the band up in 1983 over 'creative differences.'
His only solo album went nowhere.
They reformed the band in 1992.
He felt ill before the Budokan Arena concert in Tokyo but wouldn't allow Rodgers to cancel the show.
Rodgers went to check on him later and found him dead in his hotel room.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was one of the most prolific bassists of his time.
Admirers who used his bass hooks include Queen's John Deacon and the Sugarhill Gang on 'Rapper's Delight.'
He helped put together Power Station and later went on to produce solo albums for members John Taylor and Robert Palmer.
Others he produced include Diana Ross, Rod Stewart, ABC and Duran Duran.
His friendship with Taylor extended after death as he willed his famed Music Man StingRay bass guitar to him.
He was inducted into the Dance Music Hall of Fame (September 18, 2005).
