Why he might be annoying:

He psyched himself up with a highly theatrical 'controlled hate routine.'
After he was traded by St. Louis, he said of his mound antics, 'It was a double-edged sword. There's no place to hide when you bring all that attention to yourself. It may have hastened my departure.'
Durig his last season with the Cardinals, the new team dress code required him to cut his hair and shave his mustache and his ERA jumped to 4.38. (Did the Cards learn nothing from Samson?)
He was named second biggest hot dog in the National League in a Sports Illustrated poll of fellow ballplayers (1982).

Why he might not be annoying:

He sported a most impressive Fu Manchu mustache.
He led the leagues in saves (22) and won the Sporting News' Fireman of the Year award (1975).
He inspired Cardinal fans to put 'I Hlove Hrabosky' bumper stickers on their cars.
He said of his popularity, 'It proved that the game was starved for color. People didn't want robots out there.'
