Military Personnel

The Resume

    (1942-1946)
    Born in United States
Legendary all-Navajo unit of United States Marines trained as radio operators to fight the Japanese
When WWII started the US needed an unbreakable code to use against the Japanese in combat
A code was developed using the Navajo language and 400 Navajo men were trained in its usage
The code talkers served in all six USMC WWII divisions with incredible valor and skill
    The code was never broken
August 14 is Navajo Code Talker Day.

Why they might be annoying:

Although legends in the Marine Corps, they were not formally recognized until 1968.
After the war they had to go back to the same drab reservations and same old discrimination as they had before the war.
The movie 'Windtalkers' based on their exploits was inaccurate in places and sucked overall.

Why they might not be annoying:

When United States Marines call you a hero, you're a hero.
An officer of the Fifth Marine Division said the Marine Corps could never have taken Iwo Jima without them.
They could encode, transmit, and decode a three line message in 20 seconds when machines of that time took 30 minutes to do the same thing.
Even the most brilliant Japanese cryptologists could never break the code.
Along with their individual war time decorations, long after the war, 29 code talkers received Congressional Gold Medals.
Although they are the most well known of American code talkers, other units included all Choctaw and all Basque units.
