Actress

The Resume

Why she might be annoying:

She would physically resemble Millie Perkins from less flattering angles.
She dropped the two 'e's from her name and added a 'y,' to add to her allure as an actress.
She tended to give off-base, prudish, and often clueless answers as a panelist on Match Game.
She had a forty year career on film and television, but is remembered only for her one-episode stint as Khan Singh's wife, Lt. Marla McGivers, on the original Star Trek series.
She was cutting it close to being typecast as Ricardo Montalban's love interest when she also played his wife in an episode of Bonanza.
The role of the librarian on Murder, She Wrote was written specifically to prevent her from losing her Screen Actors' Guild membership.
She lied for close to a decade after she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1977, usually claiming that she had an arthritic hip or that she had been in a car accident.
She eventually filmed a corny ad for MS Awareness, with the line 'Even with MS, Madlyn Rhue is on a roll' (an awkward reference to her now being confined to a wheelchair).

Why she might not be annoying:

She was good friends with Angela Lansbury.
Unlike Joyce Bulifant, she may have had a legitimate reason for giving oddball answers on 'Match Game.'
She was afraid to go public about her MS diagnosis because she feared it would ruin her career.
Her hiding the truth of her diagnosis forced her to isolate herself, backing out of prior commitments without explanation and leading some to call her 'a pain in the ass' to her face.
She was slated to reprise her role as Lt. McGivers in the 1982 movie, 'Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan,' but her confinement to a wheelchair, due to her MS, compelled her to withdraw from the project.
She was so identified in the role that director Harve Bennett refused to recast the role, writing the part out of the film, entirely.
She initially turned down offers to appear in MS Awareness ads because she didn't want to appear in what she called 'poor me' ads (her eventual ad showed her being active and vital).
She said, 'My mother used to take my face in her hands and say, You're going to do something special. I thought for a long time it was acting. Then when I got MS, I wondered if this was the something special.'
She died after a bad case of pneumonia, just one year after her ex-husband, Tony Young, died of lung cancer.
At her prime, she was known for her sultry voice and shapely, voluptuous figure.
