    He was nicknamed 'Little Poison' and his brother was nicknamed 'Big Poison' even though he was taller (by half an inch) than Paul.
    He missed most of the 1930 season after undergoing an appendectomy.
    He was widely viewed as having entered the Hall of Fame on his brother's coattails.
    Bill James listed him as one of the ten least-deserving Hall of Fame members.

    He batted left-handed.
    He has 678 hits in his first three seasons, a record that still stands as of 2022. (Runner-up: Ichiro Suzuki with 662 in 2001-03.)
    He hit .400 in his only World Series appearance (1927).
    He led the National League in putouts by an outfielder for four seasons (1929, 1931-32, 1934) and in fielding percentage by a centerfielder for three seasons (1935, 1937-38).
