Why he might be annoying:

In his youth, he lied about his age to earn a living as a boxer.
He was divorced.
He met his second wife while she was a contestant on 'Family Feud.'
He is rumoured to have had a large ego in his prime and to have clashed with both the producers of 'Match Game' and 'Family Feud.'
He quit 'Match Game' on bad terms (1978).
After 'Family Feud' ended, his bad reputation in the business made him unable to find work in television for many years.
He returned to television as the host of a new 'Family Feud' in 1994, but no one watched (or cared) and the show was quickly cancelled.
He was forever typecast as a game show host.

He served in the Merchant Marines for three years.
He brought a certain charm to 'Family Feud' which was lacking in many similar shows at the time.
He was one of the most popular hosts of his day.
