The Resume

    (April 16, 1730-December 23, 1795)
British general during the American Revolution
Commander-in-Chief of British North America (1777-82)
Appointed to the Order of the Bath (1777)
    Member of Parliament (1777-84, 1790-95)

Why he might be annoying:

The date and place of his birth are both disputed.
While Commander-in-Chief, he conducted a long-term affair with his housekeeper, whose soldier husband he attempted to have transferred out of New York City.
He had a contentious relationship with Admiral Mariot Arbuthnot, resulting in poor coordination of the Army and Navy during the Revolution.
He and Lord Cornwallis wrote memoirs blaming each other for the British loss in the Revolution.
He was appointed Governor of Gibraltar, but died before he assuming the post.

Why he might not be annoying:

During the Battle of Bunker Hill, he rallied the dispirited British troops to lead a third, successful assault against the American defenses (June 17, 1775).
He presciently noted about General Burgoyne's Saratoga campaign (1777), 'If this campaign does not finish the war, I prophesy that there is an end of British dominion in America.'
King George III called him 'The only man who might still save America.' (1779)
His family's properties in the American colonies were confiscated during the Revolution.
