He had a phallic name.
He served as the manager of the Yankees for just 105 games before he quit.
He was suspended for 30 days and fined $1,000 for punching another player and breaking his jaw.
The Yankees retired his number as an after thought. Yogi Berra had worn #8 after him and when they retired #8 for Yogi, they attributed it for both of them.

He caught for seven World Championship teams.
He was the first catcher to play an entire season without allowing a passed ball in 1931.
He was the first Yankee that Lou Gehrig told of his fatal illness.
He played himself in the films 'Pride of the Yankees' and 'The Stratton Story.'
He enlisted in the navy during World War II while he was still a productive player.
