The Resume

    (January 4, 1900-February 14, 1989)
    Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Curator of birds for the Academy of Natural Sciences in Philadelphia
Wrote 'Birds of the West Indies' (1936)

Why he might be annoying:

He adopted a British accent after attending Cambridge.
He is remembered mainly because Ian Fleming borrowed his name for 007.
When the Bond movies took off in the 60s, he was plagued by anonymous phone calls from teenaged girls.

Why he might not be annoying:

His 'Birds of the West Indies' remains a standard field guide.
Fleming wrote, 'It struck me that this brief, unromantic, Anglo-Saxon and yet very masculine name was just what I needed, and so a second James Bond was born.'
In thanks, Fleming gave him a first edition of 'You Only Live Twice' signed, 'To the real James Bond, from the thief of his identity.'
His wife responded to the anonymous calls with, 'Yes, James is here. But this is Pussy Galore and he's busy now.'
