    Real name was Mary Ludwig Hayes McCauley
    Reportedly manned a cannon during the Battle of Monmouth (June 28, 1778)

Why she might be annoying:

    Historians disagree on who the 'real' Molly Pitcher is, whether she existed at all, or whether she was a composite based on the acts of several different women.
    Some sources claim she was born to a German family in New Jersey, others that she was an Irish immigrant.
    Sources disagree on whether she was married to John Hays, William Hayes, or both sequentially.
    She was illiterate.
    According to the men of her husband's artillery company, she smoked and chewed tobacco and swore as well as any man.

Why she might not be annoying:

    When her husband joined the Revolutionary Army, she followed, supplying water for the men and to swab the cannons.
    She endeared herself to the troops with her hard work and courage under fire.
    When her husband collapsed from heat stroke, she reportedly took his place on the cannon crew.
    The state of Pennsylvania awarded her a pension of $40 a year for her services during the war (1822).
