He never married, leading some to believe he might have been gay.
He swore a lot.
He was fat.
He wrote many operatic roles for castrated men.
He once agreed to compete in an organ-playing contest with Johann Sebastian Bach, but chickened out.
The 'Hallelujah' chorus from 'Messiah' is overplayed.
He had a bad temper.

He had a good sense of humor.
When a soprano wouldn't sing an aria he wrote, he threatened to throw her out the window.
When another singer threatened to smash his harpsichord, he said, 'More people would come to see you do that than to hear you sing!'
He was the most popular composer of his time in Italy and England.
He went blind.
