Best known for portraying the character Charlie Farquharson -- a malaprop-prone farmer -- on various Canadian TV shows and Hee Haw
Released several books and comedy albums as Farquharson
Appeared in the films 'The Best of Everything' (1959) and 'The Hospital' (1971)
Hosted the game show 'Anything You Can Do' (1972-74)
Hosted the CBC Radio program 'Morningside' (1977-82) and the CTV program 'The Don Harron Show' (1983-85)
Named an Officer of the Order of Canada for services to the performing arts (1980)

Why he might be annoying:

He began acting on Canadian radio programs at age 11.
He was married four times, divorced three times.
During an argument with his second wife, he slashed his forearm with a butcher knife.
As Charlie Farquharson, he wore threadbare clothes and sported a two-day growth of beard.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II.
He co-wrote the script for the televised version of 'Anne of Green Gables,' and later adapted it into a stage musical that has played at Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, for fifty years.
He was a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
While entertaining at the Prime Minister's residence, he almost got Pierre Trudeau to fall out of his seat with laughter.
He said, 'I was born at home in bed with a naked woman, and hope to exit the same way.'
