    Invented the first practical typewriter (1872)

Why he might be annoying:

    His 'QWERTY' standard (suggested by his business associate) was designed to slow down fast typists, cutting down on jams.
    He his poor marketing tactics made it difficult for him to sell his invention, until the rifle manufacturer, Remington Arms Company, came along. (1873).

Why he might not be annoying:

    Before he invented the typewriter, he was a senator, the state assembly, and helped found the Republican Party, all in Wisconsin.
    He died before he could see the full impact of his invention.
    The typewriter transformed the business world.
    He was inducted into the National Inventor's Hall of Fame (2001).
