He was unable to develop into a power hitting third baseman at the professional level.
His appearance on 'The Late Show with David Letterman' is remembered for him saying he wanted to be a gynecologist when he grew up (1993).
He went from the majors to being destitute, eating out of dumpsters and heavy substance abuse, comparing his lifestyle to that of Nicolas Cage's character in 'Leaving Las Vegas.'
He was labeled as being 'The next Tony Gwynn' by the Padres front office, which was a distinction he couldn't live up to.
