    Head coach for the men's hockey program at the University of Alaska–Fairbanks (1987-93), Colorado College (1993-99) and the University of Minnesota (1999-2018)
    Commissioner of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association

Why he might be annoying:

    He never played professional hockey.
    His hiring as Minnesota head coach didn't initially resonate with the fanbase, because he wasn't an alumnus of the school.
    His Minnesota teams consistently fell short of expectations, following their back-to-back national championship victories in the early 2000's.
    He came under fire from the Minnesota hockey pundits for putting more of an emphasis on out-of-state recruitment for his program, rather then look for talent within the state.
    He drew the ire from NHL personnel in his later years at Minnesota for his lack of ability to develop NHL caliber players.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He took a Colorado College program, which was on the brink of contraction to the NCAA National Championship game (1996).
    He guided Minnesota to back-to-back NCAA National Championship titles (2002-03).
    He left the University of Minnesota men's hockey program as the all-time winningest coach in franchise history.
    He missed four games during the 2008-09 season, following his diagnosis of sarcoidosis.
    He served as the inaugural commissioner of the CCHA (2020-21).
