Why he might be annoying:

    His nickname was 'Mud.'
    He shares his name with a forward whose career he overlapped.
    He was immortalized in Don Cherry's 'Rock'Em Sock'Em Hockey' lore after footage of him being stuck in the Blackhawks dressing room, which required a forklift to open the door made the montage.
    He was fired after one season with the Blackhawks.
    His Jets team regressed considerably in the second season, which later sealed his fate as an NHL head coach.
    His teams never got past the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He earned a Stanley Cup ring in his first season with the Canadiens (1971).
    He guided the Jets to a significant turnaround, which saw the team improve by 21 points and earn a playoff berth (1989-90).
    He was the second head coach in Jets history to earn the Jack Adams Award.
    Some hockey pundits felt his dismissal from Winnipeg wasn't his fault, as he was put in a no-win situation following the team's decision to trade away Dale Hawerchuk.
    He was a member of the inaugural coaching staff for the Sharks franchise during their first couple seasons.
    He served as a head coach in Germany's DEL, prior to his retirement in 2002.
