    Assistant coach for Saint Louis University men's basketball team (1973-74), Michigan State University men's basketball team (1974-78), Detroit Pistons (1986-88) and the Milwaukee Bucks (1996-98)
    Head coach for Bradley University men's basketball team (1978-86) and the Indiana Pacers (1988-90)
    President of Basketball Operations for the Vancouver/Memphis Grizzlies (1999-2002)
    General manager for the Memphis Grizzlies (2002-05)
    Broadcaster for the NBA on TNT (1998-99, 2005-15)

Why he might be annoying:

    He married three times and was divorced twice.
    He initially started his coaching career in high school football, before switching over to basketball.
    His tenure at Bradley was remembered for him employing a triangle-and-two defense strategy to attempt to stop Larry Bird, which backfired on him immensely.
    His defensive plan was derivatively known as the 'Bird Cage Defense' as a result.
    He was fired by the Pacers 25 games into his second full season with the club (November 1990).
    He attempted to run for a seat in congress, but backed out two months after stating his intentions (2007).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is the first American of Puerto Rican descent to serve as an NBA head coach.
    He was born on a military base to an Italian-American father and a Puerto Rican mother.
    He started his coaching career in the high school ranks, before moving up to college and later the NBA.
    His success at Bradley drew the attention of Chuck Daly, who hired him as an assistant coach on his staff with the Pistons.
    He guided the Pacers to the franchise's third playoff berth post-merger in his lone full season at the helm (1989-90).
    He was instrumental in helping Michael Heisley secure both the purchase of the Vancouver Grizzlies, along with the franchise's relocation to Memphis a couple years later.
