Why he might be annoying:

He was married and divorced twice.
It was rumored his first marriage was done in order for him to return to the United Kingdom.
He narrowly missed his second wedding, after he was released on bail hours before the ceremony, after a bar altercation at his stag party hours earlier.
He divorced his second wife while she was three months pregnant (she lost the baby afterwards).
It was revealed he had an extramarital affair, which caused the demise of his second marriage.
He was forced to end his first stint with Manchester United as a result of visa issues.
He angered the Tottenham Hotspur fans by doing the Nazi salute (1996).
He struggled with cocaine addiction during his career.
He earned a nine month suspension after he tested positive for cocaine (2002).
His addiction was serious enough, that he wound up in a six year exile.
His drug addiction spiraled so far out of control that he was forced to declare bankruptcy.
Alex Ferguson called him a terrible professional in his autobiography.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is of Croatian descent.
He was considered one of the top goaltenders in the English Premier League during the 1990's.
He backstopped Manchester United to its first Intercontinental Cup championship (2000).
He didn't take offense to Ferguson's assessment of him, citing the latter signed him to play for Man United twice during his tenure.
He returned to playing six years after he was exiled for cocaine use.
He made amends with the Australian national team and played for them during his comeback.
He earned both the Oceania Footballer of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Century awards.
He later worked as a soccer broadcaster in the years following his retirement from active play.
