Why he might be annoying:

For some reason, he moved to Iowa and returned back to Kentucky almost immediately.
He was nominated for President by the southern wing of the Democratic Party.
He became a Confederate general during the Civil War.
He served as the Secretary of War in the cabinet of the Confederate States of America (1865).
He moved to Europe after the South lost the Civil War.

Why he might not be annoying:

He won the vice presidency at 36, making him the youngest ever to win that position.
He served the Union army until he was expelled for supporting the rebellion.
He lost to Abraham Lincoln in his presidential candidacy race.
He returned to America to practice law (1868).
He was also a vice president of the Lexington Big Sandy Railroad Company.
He fought strongly for what he believed in.
