TV Series
It didn’t seem to be about anything beyond firearms and cosmetics.
Further to this point, there is a hair category named in its honor on Am I Annoying.
When reclusive Charlie greeted them over the agency speaker, the Angels would usually return the greeting in unison!
Only one Angel (Kelly) remained with the series through its entire run.
Because (1) she hated how her character was written and (2) other offers were pouring in, Farrah left after one season.
The producers took her to court for breach of her five-year contract in the first year!
Shelley Hack seemed uncomfortable playing Tiffany.
In French, it is called Drôles De Dames. (Now, where does the ‘Funny’ idea come from?)
In its final season (beginning November 30, 1980), it spent the first six episodes in Hawaii. However, having gone on telecast hiatus the following February and not returning until that June, its novelty had finally worn off.
It sparked religious extremist, under the guise of morality, to try and control what viewers wanted to watch
The show was a catalyst for the T&A (Tits & Ass) genre of shows.
T&A moved ABC from the bottom; to the the top rated network.
It was a hit right out the gate, remaining in the top 10 for its first three years.
The Angels’ ‘very hazardous duties’ prepared them perfectly for their new crime fighting environment.
In its second season, it moved to an hour earlier and scored even more viewers.
Many of the actresses’ real-life skills (e.g. Jill playing tennis) found their way into the storylines.
The opening credits showed each Angel starting off on a mad dash.
The producers had trouble convincing Cheryl Ladd to replace Farrah. But once she did, in the role of Jill’s mistake-prone sister, she never looked back.
Farrah herself did return for six more episodes, three in the 1978-79 season and three in 1979-80.
They took their fair share of hits at the hands of the villains.
Before almost all commercial breaks, the last image was frozen (as if pressing pause on the VCR) over and the Angels logo would slide in alternately on the vertical, accompanied by a cute five-note jingle and stinger. There were a few exceptions concerning the jingle and freeze-frame.
Its comedic big-screen adaptation, with three new Angels, was also a hit.
The typeface used for the titles lives on as the VHS reference on most videocassette brands.
It spawned the #1 selling poster of all time (Farrah Fawcett).
