Why he might be annoying:

He got into it with Amy Cooper (no relation) over her refusal to leash her dog while walking in an area of Central Park reserved for birdwatchers.
He admitted to luring Amy's dog to his side with treats and to openly saying 'Look, if you're going to do what you want, I'm going to do what I want, but you're not going to like it' (which she interpreted as a threat).
The confrontation between the two occurred the same day as the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers, fueling an already tense political climate.

Why he might not be annoying:

He is a Harvard graduate.
He was Marvel's first openly gay writer and editor, and has introduced several gay superhero characters into the franchise.
Amy Cooper's actions very easily could have resulted in his being brutalized or killed over a false accusation.
He is an avid birdwatcher who was president of the Harvard Ornithological Club in the 1980s.
The confrontation led to the creation of Black Birders Week.
He claimed he was not supportive of Amy Cooper's prosecution because he claimed it 'lets white people off the hook,' allowing them to leave 'their own prejudices unexamined.'
