The Resume

    (circa 1525-September 9, 1569)
    Born in Breda, Netherlands

Why he might be annoying:

Little is known about his early life.
He married the daughter of his art dealer when she was 18 and he was in his 30s.
The ‘earthiness’ of his paintings frequently extended to depicting peasants going the bathroom.
Shortly before his death, he asked his wife to destroy some of his drawings that had inscriptions that were ‘too sharp or sarcastic.’

Why he might not be annoying:

He is considered a pioneer of genre painting.
He used the religious painting ‘Massacre of the Innocents’ to comment on contemporary events by depicting Flemish villagers being attacked by Spanish soldiers and German mercenaries.
For decades after his death, his son Pieter the Younger kept a large studio busy producing copies and pastiches of his work.
Fellow Flemish artist Peter Paul Rubens was a fan, owning a dozen of his paintings.
