The Resume

    (April 23, 1945- )
    Born in Birmingham, Alabama
    Singer, actor, and playwright
'Officer Clemmons' on 'Mister Rogers' Neighborhood' (PBS, 1968-93)
Appeared in the documentary 'Won't You Be My Neighbor?' (2018)

Why he might be annoying:

    His middle name is Scarborough.
    His nickname is 'Diva Man.'
He wrote his own IMDB bio.
His style of dress is eccentric.
Although his homosexuality was not a personal issue for Mr. Rogers, he was specifically told he could no longer frequent gay nightclubs if he wanted to stay on the show. He was even barred from wearing his earring.
His church and Mr. Rogers pushed him into marrying a woman as a means of concealing his being gay. The marriage (predictably) didn't last and ended with a divorce in 1974.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first African-American to have a recurring role on a kids TV series.
He sang professionally for seven seasons, performing over with The New York City Opera, Los Angeles Civic Light Opera, and Philadelphia Orchestra.
He won a Grammy Award for a recording of 'Porgy and Bess' in which he performed the role of Sportin' Life.
An episode in which he and Mr. Rogers washed their feet in the same tub was a groundbreaking statement on race relations for the time (May 9, 1969).
The moment was recreated for his last appearance on the show, in which he sang 'There Are Many Ways to Say I Love You' to Mr. Rogers.
His being cast as a black police officer was also a television first (they beat Sanford and son to it by four years).
Mr. Rogers was close with him for the rest of his life, and Clemmons later called him 'a surrogate father.'
He was the only cast member of 'Mister Roger's Neighborhood' to be excluded from the 'Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood' movie with Tom Hanks.
