He was a Jewish scientist who was forced to flea Denmark when the Nazis occupied (escaped to Sweden, then England).
He worked on the Los Alamos project, helping the U.S. create the atomic bomb.
In 1944, he became concerned about controlling nuclear weapons.
He wrote a letter to the U.N. urging for peaceful atomic policies (1950).
He said: 'An expert is a man who has made all the mistakes, which can be made, in a very narrow field.'
