The Resume

    (September 13, 1819-May 20, 1896)
    Born in Leipzig, Germany
    Birth name was Clara Wieck
    Classical pianist
    Wife of composer Robert Schumann

Why she might be annoying:

She did not speak until she was four years old.
She was a teenaged piano prodigy.
She and Robert clashed over his desire to have a traditional wife versus her love of playing and touring.
She wrote music in her youth, but gave it up, declaring, ‘A woman must not desire to compose – there has never yet been one able to do it.’

Why she might not be annoying:

Despite Robert’s opposition to her performing, her concerts were the main source of income for the family.
She was called ‘the high priestess of music.’
During a revolution in Dresden, she walked through the front lines, defying a group of armed men, to rescue her children (1848).
After her husband died in an asylum, she refused charity from a group of musicians offering to perform a benefit concert for her.
