He was close friends with Natalie Wood and Barbra Streisand.
He was a child radio actor and dancer who joined the Ballet Theatre when he was 18.
He was Jerome Robbins' chief aide on the original Broadway' run of 'West Side Story,' and stayed on both for the touring company and the film version.
He died of complications from AIDS.
His self-deprecating humor was the inspiration for the character of Harold in Mart Crowley's The Boys in the Band.
