The Resume

    (1969- )
    Located in Kansas City, Missouri
    Two World Series Championships (1985 & 2015)
Former and current Royals include Lou Pinella, George Brett, Frank White, Dennis Leonard, Bret Saberhagen, Mike Sweeney, Jemaine Dye, Carlos Beltran, Angel Berroa
    Three retired numbers include George Brett's #5, Dick Howser's #10 and Frank White's #20

Why they might be annoying:

The city of Kansas City was granted a baseball team after the Athletics ownership/management left for Oakland.
They have a waterfall in center field.
They were eliminated by the Yankees in the playoffs in three straight years (1976, 77, 78).
Trailing 4-3, with two outs iun the top of the ninth against the NY Yankees, George Brett used too much pine tar on his bat. He hit a two run home run, and it was ruled the final out of the game rather than the go ahead run. (July 24, 1983).
After spending a good part of the 2003 season at first place in the Central Division, they ended up falling to third place behind the Twins and White Sox.
They did not make the playoffs for 29 years after winning the 1985 World Series.
They finished with 100+ losses four times between 2002 and 2006.

Why they might not be annoying:

They won their first game 4-3 in extra innings.
Lou Pinella won the Rookie of the Year as a Royal.
They came close to beating the New York Yankees in their first post season appearance (1976).
They won over 100 games in their 8th season (1977).
After further review by baseball's officials, it was ruled that Brett was not using too much pine tar. The game continued with KC leading 5-4 and eventually winning (August 18, 1983).
They won their only World Series in a game 7 after Bret Saberhagen pitched a five-hit shutout.
In his first year as a manager, Tony Pena turned the Royals into a contender and even won the AL Manager of the Year (2003).
They went on an improbable playoff run, knocking off the city's former franchise, the Athletics in a comeback victory in the AL Wild Card Game, making their way to the World Series (2014).
