The Resume

    (May 26, 1893-June 12, 1957)
    Born in Berkley, Virginia
    Birth name was Marguerite Upton
Performed in the Ziegfeld Follies and Earl Carroll Vanities
Appeared in the films 'The Woman and the Law' (1918), 'The Skyrocket' (1926) and 'International House' (1933)

Why she might be annoying:

She was better known for her marriages, her affairs and her diamonds than her acting.
She was an early pioneer of the 'Famous for Being Famous' school of celebrity.
She was married six times, with the longest lasting four years, the shortest under a week before it was annulled.
She had affairs with Charlie Chaplin, Irving Thalberg and King Gustav VI of Sweden.
She spent a million dollars in a week-long shopping spree (1920).
She said, 'True love was a heavy diamond bracelet, preferably one that arrived with its price tag intact.'
In 'International House,' a W.C. Fields punchline about Joyce sitting on her pussy (revealed to actually be a cat) drew the wrath of the Hays Office censors.

Why she might not be annoying:

Growing up, she vowed not to live a 'dull and dreary life,' and certainly followed through.
She would often grant interviews in her bedroom wearing a sheer negligee.
She was mentioned in song lyrics by Cole Porter and Irving Berlin.
She is believed to be the inspiration for Lorelei Lee in Anita Loos' 'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.'
She said about her golddigger reputation, 'Better to be a mercenary than miserable.'
