    He was a heavy smoker during his younger years.
    He went by his middle name, rather then his birth name of William
    He was secretive about discussing his personal life to the media.
    His failing health prompted some media to assume he suffered a stroke, when he was actually suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was the co-founder of Nazareth.
    He toured with the band for 45 years, prior to being forced to retire due to health issues.
    He considered the likes of Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Chuck Berry and Otis Redding amongst his musical influences.
    He truly loved his fans, going as far as saying he appreciated each and every one who supported him over the years.
    Despite retiring from touring with Nazareth, he recorded a solo album in 2019.
