Why Kamloops, British Columbia might be annoying:

    Its original name was Fort Cumcloups.
    It experienced the worst amount of casualties in the smallpox epidemic of 1862.
    It has a lot of steep terrain, due to its location near the basins of the Thompson River.
    It has extremely mild winters and extemely hot summers.
    It is prone to forest fires.
    It was home to the Kamloops Indian Residential School, in which unmarked graves of 215 First Nations children who attended the school were found through a ground penetrating radar detector (May 2021).
    The discovery here led to more unmarked graves being found at other residential school sites across the country, along with the start of an Indigenous protest movement that encouraged vandalism to statues of historical figures and churches.

    It was founded as a trading post by European settlers in the early 1800's.
    It experienced major growth as a result of the Gold Rush, which in turn helped the community get city status.
    It has a diverse economy, ranging from the forestry to research industries.
    It is host to various sporting tournaments year-round, which in turn gives it the moniker of 'The Tournament City.'
    It is home to one of the Western Hockey League's storied franchises, the Kamloops Blazers.
    Its residents were endangered by the wildfires at nearby Lytton but ultimately did not have to evacuate (July 1, 2021).
