Why he might be annoying:

    He wrote an autobiography.
    He was called the Canadian John Cleese.
    He felt his appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show was disastrous because the host insisted on rewriting his material to suit an American audience.
    He starred in the Canadian sitcom 'XPM' that lasted only two episodes.
    He liked to tell jokes about being Canadian like: ‘You tell a Canadian he's apathetic and he'll answer, Who cares?'

    He served in the Navy during WWII.
    He won two Gemini awards for his comedy specials.
    He appeared on both the radio and television version of the Royal Canadian Air Farce show.
    His experience on the Ed Sullivan Show made him determined to both write and have control over his comedy material.
    He toured comedy clubs and appeared at the Just for Laughs festival after leaving RCAF (which he returned to periodically over its run for the occasional TV special).
    He was inducted into the Canadian Comedy Hall of Fame in 2022.
    His humor was edgy but famously sweet and good-natured.
