He turned Belarus into a dictatorship while the rest of Europe embraced democracy.
He institutes Soviet-style economic policies in Belarus.
He is xenophobic toward the Western World, resulting in Russia being Belarus's only major ally.
He had an illegitimate son from an unknown woman (2004).
He is proud of his authoritarian style of ruling.
He gave speeches praising Hitler by equating Belarus with Nazi Germany.
He keeps the KGB alive in Belarus.
When the Belorussian Parliament threatened to impeach him, he disbanded it (1996).
He is unwilling to listen to calls for greater freedom in Belarus.
He looks and dresses like a stereotypical French waiter.

He is popular in Belarus for maintaining political and economic stability.
As a child, he was bullied by his peers for being raised by a single mother.
He shut down two newspapers publishing racist, particularly anti-Semitic, remarks (2006).
He is committed to the principles of careful analysis of events, hard work, sense of duty, realism, fairness and fidelity to principle.
