Why she might be annoying:

She ran away from home at age 15, hitchhiked from one concert to another and stayed at hippie crash pads.
Before forming X-Ray Spex, she released an unsuccessful reggae single under the name Mari Elliott.
She left X-Ray Spex shortly after seeing a 'DayGlo UFO' following a concert.
She was initially labelled as schizophrenic, then rediagnosed as bipolar.
She joined the Hare Krishnas (1983-86).

Why she might not be annoying:

She was raised by her mother, a British legal secretary, after her father, a Somali aristocrat, left the family.
In a racial incident growing up, she was hit over the head with a cricket bat.
With her short-cropped hair, dental braces and fluorescent wardrobe, she was described as 'one of the least conventional front-persons in rock history, male or female.'
She said, 'I love the challenge of pushing boundaries in music.'
She died of metastasized breast cancer a month after releasing a critically acclaimed solo album.
