    (July 16, 1939-January 8, 2018)
    Born in Leflore County, Mississippi
Birth name was Ora Denise Allen
Recorded the singles ‘Trapped by a Thing Called Love’ (1971), ‘Now Run and Tell That’ (1972), ‘A Man-Sized Job’ (1972), ‘Married But Not To Each Other’ (1975), ‘Love Me Right’ (1977) and ‘My Toot Toot’ (1985)
Inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame (2011) and Rhythm and Blues Hall of Fame (2013)
She changed her name to Lasalle because it sounded French.
She was a one-hit wonder on the Billboard Top 40 (with ‘Trapped by a Thing Called Love’) and in Great Britain (with her cover of Rockin’ Sidney’s ‘My Toot Toot’).
Her reaction when producer Willie Mitchell told her ‘Trapped’ would be a million seller: ‘Oh, no, it’s no good.’
Her live shows featured extended, raunchy between-song raps about how women should please their men (and vice versa).
She tried to jump on the disco bandwagon but admitted, ‘I was so glad when it was over, because it just wasn’t my bag.’
‘Trapped by a Thing Called Love’ hit #1 on Billboard’s R&B chart and earned a gold record for sales of over a million singles.
She had a string of Top Ten R&B hits.
In addition to most of her own hits, she wrote songs for Ann Peebles, Little Milton and Z.Z. Hill.
She said about her racy reputation, ‘It’s a new side of women that Millie [Jackson] and I are portraying – the woman of today who won’t be no doormat.’
She was a founder of the National Association for the Preservation of the Blues (1986).
A few months before her death, her right leg was amputated as result of complications from a fall.
