    He wasn't particularly photogenic.
    One of his first jobs in music was singing at a taxi-dancing club.
    He was selected to dub Breno Mello in 'Black Orpheus' in preference to Joao Gilberto. because producers felt he 'sounded more black.'

Why he might not be annoying:

    His name translates to Augustine of the Saints.
    By 1964, he was one of the highest paid television performers in Brazil.
    He was good friends with Johnny Mathis.
    He died when a fire on the airplane he was riding caused it to make an emergency landing in a field not far from the airport. He was among 123 fatalities.
    He is credited with playing a role in the development of the careers of other important Bossa Nova artists.
    'Black Orpheus' has one of the greatest film soundtracks of all time, partly due to his vocals.
