Baseball Player

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

In 1993, after six solid seasons with the Cincinnati Reds, he let his fame go to his head and signed a 3 year contract with the Orioles for a total of $9.3 million.
    His career tanked shortly thereafter.
In 1996, he made a sad attempt to regain his hustle and passion from his early days by crawling back to the Reds.
During his 1996 season, he was suspended for use of a corked bat.
He was known for starting arguments with umpires.
He walked out of a hair salon halfway through a haircut when he was upset with the job the stylist was doing.
When he got a $20,000 bonus check for winning the Rookie of the Year award, he said: 'nice...now I can go buy 2000 pairs of Bugle Boy jeans.'

Why he might not be annoying:

To his defense, he had cracked his original bat when he was caught with the corked bat. After cracking his bat, a batboy just grabbed a pile of batting practice bats, and he just picked one that felt good.
He batted .563 with 2 home runs and did not make any errors in the Reds' 1990 surprise sweep of the Oakland Athletics in the World Series.
He had a cult following among the fans in Cincinnati.
After accepting his 1988 Rookie of the Year award, he said: 'you know, there were a lot of people out there who thought I wasn't gonna make it beyond the college level for baseball...well they can all jump off a bridge.'
He was nicknamed 'Spuds' after the Budweiser dog Spuds McKenzie, because his sports goggles gave him the ring-eyed look.
He was not only able to make a major league roster as a non-roster invitee to spring training, but also won the Rookie of the Year award and had some good seasons.
He admits that signing his contract with the Orioles was 'the stupidest damn thing I've ever done.'
When he made the major leagues, he still drove a rusted Ford Escort and wore Kmart clothes, despite making a good salary, because he wanted the fans to know he was just like them.
He described his buzz hair cut as 'a good landing strip for paper airplanes.'
He never accepted money for autographs.
