    General manager of the San Diego Rockets (1968-71) and the Los Angeles Lakers (1972-76)

    He never played professionally.
    His Canadian birth was largely ignored by media sources.
    He shared his name with a football player.
    He was initially a child film star, before getting into the sports world.
    He was forced to resign from his coaching career as he was unable to handle the stress.

    He was rumored to have been considered handpicked by Charlie Chaplin for the lead role, which eventually went to Jackie Coogan in 'The Kid.'
    He guided the University of California men's basketball team to the NCAA national championship (1959).
    He coached the U.S. men's basketball team to an Olympic gold medal (1960).
    His tenure with the Lakers is remembered for successfully acquiring Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks.
    He operated a basketball camp, primarily to help players of large statures develop their all-around games.
    He said he started his camp as a way to give back to the game of basketball.
