Politician

The Resume

    (October 13, 1946- )
Born in Liverpool, England, United Kingdom
    Birth name was Edwina Cohen
Conservative Member of Parliament for South Derbyshire (1983-97)
    Junior Health Minister (1986-88)
Wrote the novels 'A Parliamentary Affair' (1994), 'A Woman's Place' (1996), 'She's Leaving Home' (1997), 'The Ambassador' (1999), 'Chasing Men' (2000) and 'This Honourable House' (2001)
Hosted the talk show 'Late Night Currie' on BBC Radio Five (1998-2003)

Why she might be annoying:

As Junior Health Minister, she said that 'good Christian people' do not get AIDS, that old people who could not afford their heating bills should wrap up warmly in winter, and that people in Northern England die of 'ignorance and chips.'
She issued a badly worded warning about salmonella in eggs that caused sales to drop by 60%, leading to her resignation.
After a televised election debate, she poured a glass of orange juice over the head of her Labour opponent (1992).
After leaving Parliament, she became a staple of 'celebrity' editions of reality TV shows, appearing on 'Hell's Kitchen,' 'Come Dine with Me' and 'Strictly Come Dancing.'
She published her diaries (2002), revealing that she and future Prime Minister John Major had a four-year affair in the early 80s, when they were both married to other people.
Shortly after calling Major 'the love of my life,' she said he was 'one of the less competent prime ministers.'
She claimed food bank patrons had wasted their money on pet food and tattoos (2014).

Why she might not be annoying:

As part of an AIDS-prevention campaign as Junior Health Minister, she gave a televised demonstration of proper condom use.
Although she considers herself Jewish, she said 'I find religious mumbo jumbo hard to swallow in any faith.'
She won 'Celebrity Mastermind,' choosing the life of Marie Curie as her specialized subject.
She took part in a bicycle ride across Poland to raise funds for the Marie Curie Cancer Cure (2004).
She turned down I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, noting 'I don't enjoy hot, humid places.'
One BBC correspondent said of her outspokenness, 'Let's be frank. She was fun and every political journalist's dream come true.'
