The Resume

    (November 24, 1826-October 26, 1890)
Born in Florence, Grand Duchy of Tuscany, Italy
    Birth name was Carlo Lorenzini
Wrote 'The Adventures of Pinocchio (1883)'
Other works included 'Macchiette (1880),' 'Occhi e nasi (1881),' and 'Storie allegre (1887)'

Why he might be annoying:

He allegedly hated kids and had none of his own.
He is thusly believed to have written the Pinocchio stories as a means of scaring kids straight into good behavior.
His original serial stories were extremely dark and non-family friendly (in this version, Pinocchio kills Jiminy Cricket with a mallet and is haunted by his ghost).
His hand was forced into adding a happy ending that saw Pinocchio become a 'real boy' by his newspaper editor, who wanted the story more suitable for children.
He was frustrated in his later years that he was known primarily as the author of children's stories.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a volunteer with the Tuscan army during the Italian War for Independence.
He turned to journalism as a means of supporting the Risorgimento in its struggle with the Austrian Empire.
Before 'Adventures of Pinocchio,' he primarily published political satire in newspapers.
He founded and published two political newspapers during the fight for a unified Italy.
His novel was later turned into a movie by Walt Disney and remains one of his most beloved adaptations.
He took the 'Collodi' pen name from his hometown.
