Conductor

The Resume

    (March 4, 1925-November 4, 2006)
Recorded 'Love is Blue' ('L'Amour est Bleu')

Why he might be annoying:

He was a one hit wonder.
He occassionally used the pseudonym 'Del Roma.'
He is classically trained but stumbled into the world of pop and jazz.
He retired in 1998 but his orchestra continued to tour the world as the Paul Mauriat Orchestra.

Why he might not be annoying:

He co-wrote 'I Will Follow Him,' a #1 hit for 'Little' Peggy March (her only hit).
The French version of the song, 'Chariot,' was a hit for Petula Clark in 1962.
'Love is Blue' was an international smash in 1968 and peaked at #1 on Billboard's Singles chart in the U.S. (a rarity for an instrumental).
That same year Jeff Beck recorded a rock version of the song.
A year later The Dells had a hit with 'Sing a Rainbow/Love is Blue.'
