Played in the Western Canadian Hockey League for the Regina Capitals (1924-25) and Edmonton Eskimos (1925-26)
Played in the NHL for the Boston Bruins (1926-40) and New York Americans (1940)
Owner of the Springfield Indians of the American Hockey League (1939-76)
Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame (1947)

Why he might be annoying:

His first NHL season, he set a record with 130 penalty minutes.
During his second season, he broke his record with 165 penalty minutes.
He was fined $100 for accidentally striking a ref during a brawl.
He ended the career of Toronto Maple Leafs star Ace Bailey when he charged Bailey from behind, inflicting a skull fracture (December 12, 1933).
As Indians owner, he had a cantankerous relation with his players.
During the 1966-67 season, the entire Indians team refused to play after he suspended three players for 'indifferent play.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was the first defenseman to win the Hart Trophy as NHL MVP four times.
His aggressive play led the Bruins to their first Stanley Cup victory in team history (1929).
His ear was nearly severed when teammate Billy Coutu headbutted him.
The AHL named its award for best defenseman after him.
He was #10 on Hockey News' list of the 100 greatest players, making him the highest-rated pre-WW2 player.
