    Some people assume that the PGA Masters golf tournament is located here.
    It has extremely cold winters.
    Despite receiving capital city status in 1827, state politicians continued to meet in Portland until the state capital building was completed four years later.
    Its original name was Cushnoc, before being renamed after Augusta Dearborn, the daughter of former U.S. congressman Henry Dearborn.

    It is the easternmost capital city in the United States.
    It is home to Fort Western, the oldest wooden fort built in the United States.
    It was a major trading post in the late 1700's and early 1800's.
    It is considered one of the state's historical cities.
