The Resume

    (March 18, 1908-February 2, 1988)
    Born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
Goaltender for the Montreal Maroons (1931-32) and the Detroit Red Wings (1934-39; 1943-45)
    Vezina Trophy winner (1937)

Why he might be annoying:

He was small and scrawny for a goaltender.
He suffered a career-altering incident, in which he took the brunt of a collision with Howie Morenz.
He injured his arm during the 1937-38 season, which affected his performance considerably.
His refusal to show up to a game caused a rift between him and his head coach, Jack Adams.
He opted to retire, rather then compete with Frank Brimsek for the starting goaltender's job, upon being traded to the Bruins.
He came out of retirement to play six games for the Red Wings over two seasons (1943-45).

Why he might not be annoying:

He began wearing a baseball cap to block the glare of the lights following his collision with Morenz.
He spent two years in the minors to improve his rebound control and all-around game.
He made a successful comeback to the NHL when he signed with the Red Wings.
He recorded 92 saves and a shutout against the Maroons to help the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup, in what became the longest game in NHL history (1936).
He backstopped the Red Wings to a second consecutive Stanley Cup title, in his Vezina Trophy winning season (1937).
