His last name was hard to spell and pronounce.
He spent the majority of his career on mediocre teams.
He made it on his high school team through nepotism; his father was the school's football coach.
He was remembered for his role in a brawl against the Philadelphia 76ers, that saw him take a hard punch to the face (1973).
He cited the punch he took, and the fear of losing his teeth played a role in his decision to retire.

He left the Purdue men's basketball program as its all-time leader in every offensive category.
He was a member of the American men's basketball team that won a Gold Medal at the Rome Olympics (1960).
He recorded 30 points in his final game at Purdue, in which he pulled off playing on a sprained ankle.
He was able to earn a degree in chemical engineering and play for the Zephyrs during his rookie season.
He pursued a career in dentistry and orthodontics following his retirement from basketball.
